One of the first things Joan Voss wanted to talk about in my Record Talk Radio interview with her this week was her sorrow at the passing of Assembly Minority Leader Alex DeCroce, R-Morris County.
“He was a wonderful man and very, very kind to both sides of the aisle,” said Voss, a Fort Lee Democrat who served eight years in the state Assembly before becoming a Bergen County Freeholder this year. During that time she worked with DeCroce on several bi-partisan bills.
“He was a gentleman. He was a wonderful politician and I can’t believe that on the last day of the lame duck session he said he wasn’t feeling well, went downstairs and passed away,” she said.
“Everybody is heart broken,” Voss added. “My condolences to his family, especially to his wife because they were a wonderful couple.”
During the interview, Voss talked about several county topics, including her interest in improving county services for families with autistic children. Her adult son is autistic.
Voss also told me something about herself that I did not know. When she started her career in politics, she was a Republican. Back then the GOP held the majority on the Fort Lee Borough Council. Later she switched to become a Democrat.
